InformationMy teaching philosophy is student centered and aims to give students the confidence they need to succeed.
My 25 years in the international education industry has given me extensive experience of facilitating teaching and learning to students, parents and teachers.
Through teaching at IB (International Baccalaureate) world schools in three different countries, I have learnt the most important lesson of all - to adjust all teaching to the needs of my students.
My first international school was in Dubai where I focused on language teaching and coordinating self-taught language students. Through my role as coordinator and department responsible, also learnt active learning strategies and effective communication strategies for parents and co-workers. Through lesson-observations and shared unit plans, I developed an eye for effective teaching and learning strategies. At my other international schools in Sweden and Portugal, I developed skills for how teach exam skills and also how to write effective personal statements when applying for university.
My different roles with the IB (International Baccalaureate): workshop leader, examiner and course reader, has taught me how teach adults and strengthened my teaching and learning methods and strategies.
Successful students learn actively and know how to manage their time well. As an educational coach, I teach students active learning strategies and time management skills.
Active Learning Strategies include:
Deconstructing classroom tasks
Asking critical questions
Checking tasks against instructions and criteria
Visible thinking routines
Effective reflection techniques
Time management and organizational skills
Self management skills for school and at home
Habits of the mind techniques
Combining subject learning with active learning
Developing language skills
Educational Coaching can be combined with subject knowledge. My subject expertise is language learning and literature. These subject are called Language B (second language) and Language A within the IB (International Baccalaureate) system.
