HR&S, Human Rights & Science is a Swedish social enterprise that partners with academic institutions, laboratories, and entrepreneurs in Sub-Saharan African countries to implement effective management strategies. HR&S drives evidence-based impact by replacing aid dependency with equal international partnerships to foster socioeconomic development in Sub-Saharan African countries. Through our ROPE Management Strategy, we provide targeted support for scientific research, advanced laboratories, entrepreneurship, and underserved communities. We advance socioeconomic development by integrating business, innovation, and scientific research, with evidence-based methods and our ROPE management framework guiding every step.Operating through twelve Country Branches, HR&S is transforming international development across Sub-Saharan Africa. Our work combines scientific research, innovation, and sustainable business initiatives to create lasting change. Built on our core values of truth, trust, harmony, equity, resilience, transparency, and accountability, we strengthen local empowerment and sustainability. Our goal is to become Africa's leading catalyst for sustainable development by bridging research, innovation, business, and underserved communities.
To achieve this vision, we combine financial support with capacity-strengthening coaching, measuring our progress through real-time quantitative assessment.Our focus areas include:
1. **Scientific research:** We offer competitive research grants paired with scientific capacity-strengthening coaching. Progress marker: Supported researchers publish papers and secure approval for their research grant applications.
2. **Advanced laboratories:** We provide concessional loans to procure advanced scientific equipment, along with laboratory management coaching. Progress markers: Procured equipment remains functional and financially viable throughout its expected lifetime.
3. **Entrepreneurship:** We offer business loans to small sized enterprises, combined with coaching in business management, accounting, and auditing. Progress marker: Loans and interest are repaid on time, and the (scaled) businesses become financially viable.
4. **Self-employed businesses:** We provide business loans to community leader entrepreneurs who manage self-employed businesses, while covering operational costs. Progress marker: Community leader entrepreneurs repay loans and interest on schedule, and their supported businesses achieve financial viability.
5. **Partnerships for Development:** We foster collaboration for socioeconomic development with development institutions, private sector partners, and philanthropists. Our management strategy promotes equal partnerships and program efficiency while assessing evidence for sustainable impact.
